Shipping, Discharging, Trucking and Storage

Raw sugar imported from Brazil, Thailand, and Australia is carried on bulk vessels. Discharging activities will commence upon berthing onto dump trucks which will travel directly to the refinery storage facilities.

In this second stage, raw sugar is mixed with raw syrup to soften and remove impurities from the sugar crystals outer layer. The crystals are then separated from the syrup in a centrifugal machine to be re-processed as essence-like raw liquor.

Carbonation

The sugar essence are blended with chalk milk (Ca(OH)2) before injected to carbonator and mixed with carbon dioxide. This mixture resulting a calcium carbonate which bind up the pollutant found in raw liquor.

The calcium carbonate will precipitate automatically and retract the pollutant element in the syrup. This sediment can be easily removed through two stages of filtration. The end result of this filtration process is clear liquor.

The clear liquor is then pumped through a series of ion exchange resin (IER) which retracts color from the clear liquor. At this stage, the resulting liquor is known as fine liquor.

The fine liquor is concentrated by removing excess water in an evaporator plate. A vacuum pan is used to boil the concentrated fine liquor and forms the sugar into ideal crystals size. This mixture, known as massecuite - consist of sugar crystals & thick syrup, is then discharged from the pan.

  Separation

Separation

The crystal component in massecuite is separated from the syrup in a centrifugal machine. High pressured hot water is then sprayed to enhance the separation process.

After the separation process, the sugar crystals still have high moisture content. Thus, it needs to be dried and cooled down to reach the acceptable temperature and moisture content.

  Screening

Screening

The refined sugar crystals are yet again sorted through a stainless steel vibrating screen. In this process, over-sized, lump sugar, and under-sized sugar is separated and re-processed from the beginning. Sugar crystals that meet the specified range is stored in vacuum bins, ready for packing.

The refined sugar crystals is weighed and packed into 50 Kg low density polyethylene bags. To comply with food safety standards, the refined sugar is packed in a hygienic room. All kinds of cross contamination that may degrade the sugar quality has been minimized, one of the steps to double-check it is by using a metal detector to ensure zero metal contamination in the sugar bags. The packages are then stored in the warehouse, ready to be delivered to our customers.
